Delayed Wages: a Source of Anxiety For Freelancers

Many self-employed individuals turn to Jump for the perks of employment—think social protection, no need for accounting, pension benefits—while keeping the flexibility to choose their work and schedule.

Here’s how it works: Freelancers sign a permanent contract with Jump, a SaaS service. Once their client pays an invoice, Jump collects that payment and then processes it as a freelancer’s salary.

For Jump, payroll is central.

However, there’s a hiccup. Many clients, especially large companies, have payment timelines that stretch to 30, 45 and sometimes even 60 to 90 days!

These delays are sources of stress for freelancers who need that income to finance their daily expenses, their family life, etc. These delays can make it difficult for freelancers to concentrate on their assignments, dissuade them from working with certain clients, and even spill into their personal lives.

On the client side, demands for prompt payment from freelancers can put unnecessary pressure on them, as Jump does not have the means—technically or legally—to front those salaries while waiting for client payments.

Jump’s value proposition—to take away all the worries of self-employment—could not be fully realised.

To ensure a smooth process, Jump and Aria started with a manual testing phase. It was vital for Jump that Aria was not only dependable but user-friendly, with support ready for any problem.

The two start-ups then proceeded with the API integration, which lasted a few weeks.

Now, when a freelancer completes an assignment:

  • They generate an invoice for their client within Jump.
  • They spot a button that allows them to have this bill funded immediately.
  • Once funded, they can promptly transfer it as a salary straight into their bank account.
